NCHS hosts all-state music

Natrona County High School will host the Wyoming All-State Music Conference beginning on Sunday and concluding Tuesday, according to a release.

High school students from across Wyoming in band, orchestra, and choir auditioned in October to earn a place in the conference. The best musicians in each area were chosen to come to Casper and work with guest clinicians in large groups. The students' music teachers also travel with them, and will attend clinics while their students rehearse.

The students will then perform a concert at the Casper Events Center at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Admission is $5 for adults, and $4 for students and children. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

KW launches student-built Web site

Kelly Walsh High School will unveil its new Web site at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the school library, according to a release.

Students in the school's digital media program have worked to re-build the site, which now features every activity available at the school.

NCHS announces upcoming closures

There will be no school district-wide on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, according to a release.

Natrona County High School will also not hold school on Tuesday because All-State Band will be using the school facilities.

Parent-teacher conferences for NCHS will be held Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

NCHS will have school on Feb. 16, to make up for Tuesday's closure.

There will be no school district-wide March 9 through 13 for spring break.

There will be no school district-wide April 10 in observance of Good Friday.

In observance of Memorial Day, there will be no school district-wide on May 25.

Ski fundraiser needs volunteers

A 24-hour ski fundraiser for the Lee McCune Braille Trail, Camp Hope, Rocky Mountain Eye Bank, Rocky Mountain Eye Institute and other local organizations will begin Feb. 5, according to a release.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. until about 8 a.m. on Feb. 6 at the Casper Mountain Trails Center.

Casper Mountain is a nationwide destination for people of all ages with sight limitations.

Association Montessori Internationale comes to Casper

The Montessori School of Casper will host Sue Pritzker, a representative of Association Montessori Internationale, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Montessori school.

An interactive workshop will include discussion of Montessori through the kindergarten year, improving a community through growing a school and parents supporting growth of the school.

Pritzker is a trained AMI consultant who will visit to re-accredit the school as a Montessori school.

The Montessori Method focuses on learning through sensory awareness, instilling a sense of discovery in children.

Tickets on sale for Count Basie Orchestra

The Count Basie Orchestra will headline the 42nd Annual Casper College Kinser Jazz Festival on Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the John F. Welsh Auditorium in Natrona County High School.

Founded by swing-era great William "Count" Basie in 1936, the Count Basie Orchestra today is one of the most thriving big bands in history.

The Wyoming International Association of Jazz Educators' All-state Jazz Band will open for the Count Basie Orchestra. The band is composed of Wyoming high school students from throughout the state.

The festival includes three days of jazz performed by senior and junior high school jazz bands, combos, and vocal groups. Nearly 700 junior and senior high school students and their instructors will participate in the festival.

The festival will run Feb. 10 through 12 on the Casper College campus. All festival daytime events are free and open to the public.
