Summer isn't even over, but Natrona County School District and Mercer House already anticipate the coming school year.
The two entities, along with the Joint Powers Recreation Board, teamed up for the first Back to School Bash, a community-wide event scheduled for Aug. 16.
The Bash will be held at the Nicolaysen Art Museum, Natrona County Public Library and surrounding areas.
Heading back to school too often holds negative thoughts - summer is over and now it's back to school, said Jennifer Schultes, a communications specialist with the school district.
"We want to promote excitement for it," Schultes said.
Around 80 businesses, including schools and other community organizations, will have booths filled with fun activities for students and their families.
Area businesses will host fashion shows and other entertainment during the day. Banks will be on hand to help students open savings accounts, and food will be provided.
Schultes said the Casper Recreation Center will host a petting zoo, and the Denver Zoo has also confirmed it will be at the event.
Local organizations, such as Cent$ible Nutrition, will offer activities and information for parents.
Several schools will be at the event, offering families the chance to meet their student's teachers and principals, in addition to registration and information for school clubs and activities.
"We're kinda surprised how many business have jumped on it," Schultes said. "We definitely have the intention of doing it next year, and next. It's going to be really fun."
