Hunt ghosts, shoot machine guns, drool at Chevys

Join the Paranormal Research Society of Casper at 7 p.m. tonight at Fort Caspar Museum for an evening of paranormal investigation. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. The presentation will be held in the Multi-Use Room and is free of charge. The organization will present findings from its recent investigation of the fort buildings at Fort Caspar Museum and other locations in Casper.

Public tours through the fort buildings are scheduled on the hour from 8 p.m. to midnight. Sign-up for the tours will begin at the 7 p.m. presentation and is limited to 14 people each hour. Each tour includes opportunities for the public to use the PRSC equipment, such as K-II meters, EMF meters, and digital audio recorders. All groups will tour five locations on the grounds of Fort Caspar Museum including the cemetery, the Sutler's Store, the telegraph office, a cell from the first Mills jail, and the laundry room, which will serve as the PRSC command center. The Wyoming NFA Shooters Club, Inc. will be sponsoring its annual machine-gun and cannon shoot for the benefit of the Casper Mountain Volunteer Fire Department today and Sunday. All profits from the event are given to the fire department. Admission is $10 per day or $18 for the weekend, and children under age 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. The event will be held at the Garrett Ranch, LLC, located on Highway 487 between mile marker 60 and 61. Gates are open to the public from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., today, and 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Camping on site is available for $20 for the weekend.

Machine-gun, long-range target rifles, and cannon rentals are available to the public. Raffle tickets for a rifle are $5 or 5 for $20 and the drawing will be held on Sunday.

There will be educational sessions about machine-guns and silencers today. Targets will include aerial and reactive targets. The Ft. Phil Kearny Regulars will have a Civil War re-enactment camp on site and will be live firing their state-owned Civil War cannon. There will be tracer shoot and a fireworks display tonight. White's Mountain Chevrolet in conjunction with Central Wyoming Corvettes will host a car show at White's Mountain Chevrolet parking lot. All cars powered by Chevrolet are welcome. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place in Chevy Class, Corvette Class and Work in Progress Class. There will be a best of show award in the Chevy and Corvette classes.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the show runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m., based on peoples' choice voting. Entry fee is $5 a car.

The public is invited to attend the free event and vote for their favorite Chevrolet powered car. For more information, contact Bob Kaper at 259-1282.

Rocky Mountain School of Dance will hold its Spring Showcase Performance recital today and Sunday at the Kelly Walsh auditorium. The main performances will showcase class routines. A pre-show for each performance will showcase competition duos and trios. A brief intermission will follow the pre-show prior to the start of the recital performance. Today's main performance will begin at 7 p.m.; the pre-show will begin at 5:30. Sunday's main performance will begin at 3 p.m.; the pre-show will begin at 1:30 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public.

Casper Legion Baseball will host its Sponsor Appreciation Day at Mike Lansing Field. Enjoy lunch and watch the Casper Oilers take on the Sheridan Troopers and the Casper Drillers take on the Cheyenne Hawks. The event is open to the public, for $10 you will get a game ticket and lunch (children 5 and under are free). Sponsors receive a free game ticket and lunch by presenting their sponsor letter they received in the mail. Games are at noon and 2:30 p.m. and sponsors will be recognized throughout the day.

The Lil' Pokes Rodeo will take place at the South Recreation Complex just south of Glenrock. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the rodeo starting at 10 a.m. Kids from 4 through fourth grade can compete in steer roping, boot scramble, barrel racing, bronc riding, muttin' bustin,' chicken catching, get the ribbon off the calves/goat tail, and pig wrestling. The Wyoming Arabian Horse Association hosts a Class B Arabian and Half-Arabian show at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas today and Sunday. This year the show will be in the new Equine Complex with indoor arena and all facilities under one roof. There are several cash prizes. For more information, call Cleo at 234-0968.

The Wyoming Council of the Blind hosts its spring convention in Casper at the Highland Park Community Church meeting room, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, provided by the Lions Club, followed by a welcome from the city of Casper.

One of the highlights of the meeting will be the awarding of a $1,000 college scholarship to Don Cherni of Sheridan.

There will be a wide variety of programs of interest to most everyone, as well as a luncheon with entertainment by the Senior Center's Meadowlark singers. There will also be vendors with various equipment displays, a time to relax with yoga, and door prizes.

The cost is $25 and all are welcome.

Wyoming Equality is holding its last dance of the season at the Nineteenth Hole Restaurant and Lounge on the grounds of the Casper Municipal Golf Course. The theme of the dance is "Under the Rainbow," and features music provided by D.J. Jenn. It will start at 9 p.m., and end at 1 a.m. Cost is $5 for members, and $10 for nonmembers. From 7 to 9 p.m., a scavenger hunt will take place. Scavenger hunt participants should be on site by 6:45 p.m. This portion of the evening is free.

The Casper Senior Center and Swing Sounds Dance Band will host a dance at the newly remodeled Casper Senior Center Ball Room, 1831 E. Fourth St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Admissions are $4/person with the first $25 being donated to the Casper Senior Center.
