Chamber group will meet
The Chamber's Education Committee meets today at 4 p.m. The meeting will focus on the Work Keys assessment, the Career Readiness Initiative program and other opportunities for high school students to qualify for workforce readiness.

Law enforcement seeks grant
The Casper Police Department, the Mills Police Department and the Natrona County Sheriff's Office are filing a joint application for funding as a part of the Recovery Act of 2009. The grant funding would be used to make improvements to the local public safety wireless network.
Casper, Mills and Natrona County have each received notice of the grant allocation, but an application must still be filed with the Department of Justice. The application is due on May 18. The following is the allocation breakdown among the agencies:
Natrona County Sheriff's Office: $22,106
Casper Police Department: $230,457
Mills Police Department: $19,896

Public comment on the application will be accepted at a public meeting to be held at 9 a.m. on May 6 at the Casper Police Department, 201 N. David Street. Comment can also be accepted via email to police@cityofcasperwy.com{M7 between now and the public meeting.
Artist will present workshop
Aumi Kauffman Perry, the Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery Center's "Artist of the Month," will present a oil-painting workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 30, according to a media release.
During the workshop, participants will also learn how to stretch their own canvases. The cost of the workshop is $80 for museum members and $90 for non-members, and some supplies are included. A list of supplies participants should bring is available at the NIC's front desk.

Literacy program provides classes
Casper Even Start Family Literacy Program is enrolling new participants for adult education/GED and English as a second language classes.
Free childhood education classes are offered for children from birth to age 7 while parents attend classes. Individualized activities are provided for children age birth to age 3.
Even Start provides free transportation to and from classes for families in need. Orientation dates are May 4, 11 and 18. Orientations begin at 8:30 a.m. The program is located at the Life Steps Campus at 1514 E. 12th Street, building E, suite B-1.

Casper Even Start Family Literacy Program also is in need of educational materials. Books, puzzles and educational toys are all needed. Arrangements can be made to have someone from the program pick up any items you'd like to donate. Please call 472-5640 with questions or to arrange a pick up.
