A former Albertsons Fuel Express station at the corner of Poplar Street and CY Avenue in Casper has adopted a new identity.
The makeover is part of a deal announced last fall. Tesoro Corp. agreed to purchase 51 Albertsons fuel centers from Supervalu, the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based parent company of Albertsons.
Tesoro purchased Albertsons stations located in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah and three in Wyoming for $34 million.
The company also planned to spend $5 million in branding capital.
Total fuel sales for the affected stores equal more than 5,000 barrels per day.
“Tesoro will not honor the Albertsons Fuel Rewards program at existing Wyoming Albertsons sites Tesoro is acquiring as part of this transaction,” said Tesoro spokeswoman Tina Barbee.
In all, the sale included fuel centers in the Albertsons, Cub Foods, Hornbacher’s and Jewel-Osco chains.
Lilia Rodriguez, spokeswoman for Albertsons, said the CY Avenue fuel center changed over on Sunday. It now carries Tesoro’s USA brand.
She added that some employees moved to Albertsons main store as part of the transition, while some stayed at Tesoro.
Rodriguez said Albertsons fuel stations in Laramie and Cheyenne will transition to Tesoro on Jan. 18 and 19, respectively.
In September, a company statement said the sale “will allow Supervalu to monetize non-core assets, creating capital that the company can use to further strengthen its business.”
Tesoro Corp., a refiner and marketer of petroleum products, is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. It has seven refineries in the western U.S., including Salt Lake City and Mandan, N.D.
