The woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a 100-year-old man with dementia pleaded not guilty in Natrona County District Court Thursday morning.

Investigators say Malgorzata Burns, 34, wrote herself checks and made credit card payments using the man’s bank account. Burns was working as a certified nursing assistant at Shepherd of the Valley Healthcare Center, where the man was a resident.

Burns was charged with abusing a vulnerable adult, obtaining goods by false pretenses and four counts of forgery. If convicted, she would face a maximum of 60 years in prison.

A trial or change of plea hearing will be set at a later date.
