Police have arrested an Arizona man suspected of hitting a pedestrian with a van while driving under the influence of alcohol.
William J. Cramer, 32, was taken into custody Monday night shortly after officers responded to a report of a man who'd been hit in the east-side Burger King parking lot. The man suffered minor injuries.
The van had left the area by the time police arrived at the crash site. However, officers later found a vehicle fitting its description parked at the Evansville Comfort Inn, according to a police affidavit.
Police later traced the van to Cramer, who was staying at the hotel. Officers said they got no response when they knocked on his door, but were able to speak with him through an open window.
At first, Cramer told police he had been at Taylor's Sports Bar and then Wendy's fast food restaurant. However, when asked if he'd been to Burger King, he said he might have hit someone while backing up, according to the affidavit.
Field sobriety tests indicated Cramer was too impaired to safely drive a car, police said. Tests taken at Natrona County Detention Center showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of roughly .12.
In Wyoming, a person is presumed too drunk to drive if he has a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher.
