A Casper man was arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of drunkenly choking a child and throwing her to the floor.

Donald A. Jakobiak, 49, was arrested at his Buckboard Road home after Casper police arrived and found a girl with irritation and bruising on her neck.

Family members told police that Jakobiak had been drinking all night when he fell to the ground. A family member tried to help him up and he grabbed the woman’s wrist and did not let go. The child tried to make him let go, when Jakobiak grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground, according to court documents.

A family member said Jakobiak then grabbed the girl by the throat again and held her against the wall of the house, according to the documents.

The girl told an investigating officer that she “blacked out” as a result of the assault and did not remember what happened for about 20 seconds. The girl was later taken to an emergency room for medical attention.

Jakobiak was being held in Natrona County Detention Center on Monday morning. He was expected to appear in court for his initial appearance on Monday afternoon.

Police have recommended that Jakobiak be charged with strangulation of a household member and child abuse.
