Natrona County High School's group of students is raising funds to support the educational portion of this program. Their goal is to raise money to send African children in Kenya to school, especially children with AIDS. The H.E.A.R.T. walk recently held on NC s track raised more than $350 for this cause. It takes only $65 to send a child to school with a uniform, including the purchase of a goat so that education is not a burden to the family, but a blessing. Other fundraisers will be held throughout the year.
*Natrona County Student Council would like to thank the community, staff and students of NC for helping them collect three pickup beds full of canned goods for Joshua s Storehouse. Joshua s Storehouse was very grateful to receive the 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of food to help with the upcoming Thanksgiving season.

Help with angel tree, adopt-a-family
The Salvation Army Angel Tree and Adopt-a-Family program needs community involvement.
Each year at Christmas time, The Salvation Army provides food and toys to families in need. Food and gifts are also provided for seniors who may be homebound or have a greater need during the holiday season.
The Angel tree allows for businesses to house a tree filled with the names of children and seniors who are asking for clothes and/or gifts. Those who work at the business or customers may take an angel tag, purchase the suggested item and return it to the business.
In the adopt-a-family program, an individual, family or business works with The Salvation Army in taking on a whole family that is seeking help during the holidays. Those who adopt a family provide gifts and/or food for the family and The Salvation Army links the two together.
If you or your business would like to be involved in either of the programs, call Capt. Terrie Wilson at The Salvation Army, 234-2002.

The Family Resource Center at Frontier Middle School will host a November workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. The workshop will focus on families spending time together. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Some suggestions for spending time together as a family are:
* Plan family nights. Spend a whole evening with just the family (no cell phones, iPods, Internet, etc.) These three or four hours should be spent doing things as a family like playing games, going bowling or going out to dinner.
* Turn your cell phone off when driving your kids to and from school. The few extra minutes of time devoted to them will be noticed.
*Have dinner together. Turn off all electronics. Talk about school, work and plans for the weekend - It doesn t matter just talk to your family.
*Make one night a week eat-dessert-first-night.
*Start a family project such as Christmas presents for relatives, like a photo album or cook book.
*Have family walks.
*Bundle up and make snowmen/snow forts/snow angels.
*Take turns renting movies. This way, you will see something everyone in the family likes.
*Have a PJ day - Everyone stays in pajamas all day and spends time together.

Gov Dave goes to Powder River
Gov. Dave Freudenthal will visit Powder River School on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Last year, the students wrote a letter to the governor asking him to visit their "wonderful rural school," said Powder River teacher Julia Woodward.
"We were studying Wyoming history," Woodward said, "and we wanted him to speak to us about his part in making history. He was unable to honor our request last year, however, we believe all things happen for a reason. This year, we are studying government and we are going to ask him to speak to us about the executive branch of government."

Parks division honors Parks
The public is invited to attend a celebration at Independence Rock on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the celebration is to acknowledge the contribution Norman and Gaynell Park have made to the people of Wyoming by donating their land at Independence Rock as a state historical site. Independence Rock is one of the most famous landmarks along the emigrant trails, a place where thousands of travelers camped and carved their names into the granite. Arriving at the Rock by the 4th of July assured these early pioneers that once they had ascended South Pass and crossed the Continental Divide, they were halfway to Oregon.
Enrolled on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966, and acquired by the state in 1977, Independence Rock became a state historic site and a destination point for history buffs, heritage tourism and visitors alike. The one omission to this successful acquisition of a state treasure was that Norman and Gaynell were inadvertently never formally acknowledge as the benefactors that made all this possible.
The Wyoming Division of State Parks and Historic Sites, with the help of the Alliance for Historic Wyoming, has arranged for a public celebration to personally thank Norman and Gaynell and to install a new commemorative sign recognizing the importance of their gift. Please join us in this celebration.
Independence Rock Historic Site is located in southwestern Natrona County, along Wyoming Highway 220. It is 60 miles from Casper, near Devil s Gate, and about halfway between Alcova and Muddy Gap.
