"Look Out For Wyoming: Keep an Eye on Casper" was the message to visitors in September 1904. This is just one of many historic images in the 2009 "Boom and Bust" calendar of Wyoming history that depict economic ups and downs. The calendar, published by the Wyoming State Historical Society, can be purchased at locations throughout the state or by calling 307-322-4237. (Photo courtesy of the American Heritage Center)
"Boom and Bust" is the theme of the Wyoming State Historical Society's popular calendar for 2009 which, considering recent events in our nation's history, seems quite appropriate. The Wyoming State Historical Society and its chapters use the calendar as one way to insure that Wyoming's past remains accessible.
Even before the territory was named and organized, Wyoming's economy experienced booms and busts. By the end of the twentieth century periodic booms, followed by inevitable busts, had become an accepted feature of Wyoming life. The 2009 "Boom and Bust" calendar of Wyoming history features photographs made during Wyoming"s boom days as well as from the darker times of economic distress.
