NCHS has H.E.A.R.T.
*H.E.A.R.T. (Health Education Africa Resource Team) is a charitable group based in Kenya, Africa. Natrona County High School's group of students is raising funds to support the educational portion of this program. Their goal is to raise money to send African children in Kenya to school, especially children with AIDS. The H.E.A.R.T. walk recently held on NC's track raised more than $350 for this cause. It takes only $65 to send a child to school with a uniform, including the purchase of a goat so that education is not a burden to the family, but a blessing. Other fundraisers will be held throughout the year.
*Natrona County Student Council would like to thank the community, staff and students of NC for helping them collect three pickup beds full of canned goods for Joshua's Storehouse. Joshua's Storehouse was very grateful to receive the 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of food to help with the upcoming Thanksgiving season.
*The Natrona County cheerleaders lead a fundraising event against Kelly Walsh High School selling paper footballs for a $1 donation to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. KW raised $1,300 while NC raised $2,300, claiming the Muscular Dystrophy Association Football Trophy awarded to NCHS at the Oil Bowl.

Help with angel tree, adopt-a-family
The Salvation Army Angel Tree and Adopt-a-Family program needs community involvement.
Each year at Christmas time, The Salvation Army provides food and toys to families in need. Food and gifts are also provided for seniors who may be homebound or have a greater need during the holiday season.
The Angel tree allows for businesses to house a tree filled with the names of children and seniors who are asking for clothes and/or gifts. Those who work at the business or customers may take an angel tag, purchase the suggested item and return it to the business.
In the adopt-a-family program, an individual, family or business works with The Salvation Army in taking on a whole family that is seeking help during the holidays. Those who adopt a family provide gifts and/or food for the family and The Salvation Army links the two together.
If you or your business would like to be involved in either of the programs, call Capt. Terrie Wilson at The Salvation Army, 234-2002.

The Family Resource Center at Frontier Middle School will host a November workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. The workshop will focus on families spending time together. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Some suggestions for spending time together as a family are:
* Plan family nights. Spend a whole evening with just the family (no cell phones, iPods, Internet, etc.) These three or four hours should be spent doing things as a family like playing games, going bowling or going out to dinner.
* Turn your cell phone off when driving your kids to and from school. The few extra minutes of time devoted to them will be noticed.
*Have dinner together. Turn off all electronics. Talk about school, work and plans for the weekend - It doesn't matter just talk to your family.
*Make one night a week eat-dessert-first-night.
*Start a family project such as Christmas presents for relatives, like a photo album or cook book.
*Have family walks.
*Bundle up and make snowmen/snow forts/snow angels.
*Take turns renting movies. This way, you will see something everyone in the family likes.
*Have a PJ day - Everyone stays in pajamas all day and spends time together.
For more information about Family Resource Center workshops, call Traci Gardner at 258-7598 or Ami Houck at 315-4109.

Learn about enrolling online
The Natrona County School District will offer three information sessions for parents who will complete the online school request process for the first time this year.
First-time users of this system can learn more about the process at information sessions hosted by the district. Each of the sessions will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the Central Services Facility, 970 N. Glenn Rd. The first session will be Nov. 18. Additional sessions will be offered Dec. 11 and Jan. 8.
Each January, the district asks families to go online to request their top three choices for their child's school for the following year. The process is for parents of students entering kindergarten or changing schools. Students who will stay in the same school from 2008-09 to 2009-10 do not need to participate in this process. This year's online school request period will be open Jan. 7-31.
Families throughout the district can expect to receive detailed information about the district's schools and the online request process in early January. Schools also will host open houses to encourage parents to visit before making decisions for their children.
Also new this year, the district will host online help days during the school request process. These help days will allow families to come to the Central Services Facility and have a district staff member walk them through the school request process. The help days will be Saturday, Jan. 17; Thursday, Jan. 22; and Thursday, Jan. 29. Times will be announced.
