New Hospice Home

Cheers to the Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions, which recently built its second Hospice Home at 319 S. Wilson. Although it's just opened, the new 10-person facility already has a waiting list. An open house and housewarming will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Who's in charge?

Jeers to the Mills Fire Department, which last week lost its second fire chief in two months. Interim Chief Keith Jones quit during a Mills Town Council meeting after a complaint about his appointment. He replaced former Chief Ron Schindler, who resigned amid controversy. Someone needs to take control of the department.

Road to recovery

Cheers to Dan Cantine, project director of the 12/24 Club, a Casper substance abuse recovery center. Today, Cantine will be one of thousands of people who will walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at the second annual Recovery Rally in New York City. He has been involved in the organization since it began 17 years ago.

Steroid suspects

Jeers to three former Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers -- Devan Henderson, Franklin Ryle Jr. and Adam Longo -- who have been charged with possessing steroids. The charges stem from a Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation probe of Ryle, who is awaiting sentencing in a federal kidnapping case.

Uncovering fraud

Cheers to Wyoming's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which is looking for more business. The unit identified more than $2 million in Medicaid overpayments in 2007-08, and has identified about $1 million so far this year. The agency, which must depend on outside referrals, operates a toll-free hotline at 1-800-378-0345.
