River cleaners
Cheers to all who organized and participated in the third annual Platte River Revival. More than a million pounds of trash has been removed from the North Platte River during the three years of the event. Hundreds of people helped with the cleanup last weekend.
River trashers
Jeers to people who have put trash in the North Platte, creating the need for the cleanup. The river is one of Casper's jewels, and everyone in the community should help take care of it. If we do, the time will come when cleanup days aren't needed.
Living united
Cheers to those who have contributed to the 2009 Natrona County United Way campaign. The organization has hit 65 percent of its fundraising goal of $1.1 million due to the contributions of various companies and their employees. Now, it's time for the public to step up and help. The campaign runs through the end of the year.
Cemetery conflict
Jeers to the officials of the Campbell County Cemetery Board charged with a variety of offenses, including violation of the state's open meetings act. The circus that has unfolded in the conduct of the board in recent months is a disgrace.
Ponzi busters
Cheers to Kim and David Flanigan of Casper, who helped blow the whistle on a $50 million California-based Ponzi scheme. Their action, prompted by involvement of family members, helped bring the organizers to justice and spared untold numbers of people from being defrauded.
