Free football

Cheers to the Wyoming Veterans Commission and the University of Wyoming, which are offering veterans free tickets to the Nov. 21 UW football game against TCU. There are 500 free tickets available. Veterans may request two tickets each by calling 265-7372. VFW Post 2221 in Laramie will host a tailgate party for veterans and their families.

Shameful act

Jeers to the poachers who killed two deer in Casper's Highland Park Cemetery. Workers found two gut piles amid the headstones. Investigators believe a bow hunter killed the deer between Oct. 16 and 19. Anyone with information should call Game Warden Aaron Kerr at (307) 473-3419.

Food bank milestone

Cheers to the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies, which has had a permanent office in Mills since October 2004. It recently distributed its 10 millionth pound of food to agencies statewide. Agencies do not pay for food, and any nonprofit agency with a hunger-relief program serving the ill, needy or children is welcome to apply.

In hiding

Jeers to Julie Deliramich, 57, who failed to show up for a Gillette jury's verdict on Oct. 23. The former bookkeeper for the Fox Park Homeowners Association was convicted of 10 felony counts of forgery and embezzlement, and authorities are still searching for her. Police have arrested her husband and daughter in connection with the case.

Half the battle

Cheers to the U.S. House, for allowing Wyoming to continue to receive millions in Abandoned Mine Land payments by approving the Interior Department's appropriations bill. President Barack Obama's administration wants to eliminate a provision that returns a share of revenues from federal AML coal taxes to coal-mining states. The bill is pending in the Senate.
