In public view
Cheers to the Amoco Reuse Agreement Joint Powers Board for complying with the state's open meetings law, which requires board action to be conducted in public. The board changed its rules, which had allowed the members to vote via e-mail in July on the use of $149,000 in public money.
Take away his license
Jeers to Ty Quinton Watson, 45, of Jackson, who has been arrested 12 times on suspicion of driving under the influence. He has pleaded not guilty to felony DUI following his latest arrest. Watson pleaded guilty to felony DUI in 2005 and served "intensive supervised probation." Why is this man still allowed to drive in Wyoming?
Resting at the Rim
Cheers to the Wyoming Department of Transportation for insisting to its contract holder that the Shirley Rim Rest Area on State Highway 487 remain open on "home football Saturdays" during two separate construction projects. Pokes fans -- and other travelers -- who have swigged too much coffee appreciate it.
Poaching in the park
Jeers to two brothers from Rawlins, Tracy and Ryan Palmer, who were cited for illegally trying to kill a large bull elk in Grand Teton National Park. Both were accused of illegally spotlighting wildlife in a national park. Ryan Palmer was also charged with possessing loaded firearms in a national park, plus methamphetamine.
Land conservation
Cheers to the Green River Valley Land Trust and the owners of the Cross Lazy Two Ranch, who cooperated on a conservation easement that will preserve much of the historic ranch west of Big Piney. The easement will ensure that working ranchlands and scenic views, plus crucial wildlife habitat for antelope, mule deer, moose and elk, will be preserved forever.
