Great entertainment
Cheers to the 1,100 students who are in Casper today for the Wyoming State Marching Band Festival. The noncompetitive event will begin at 4 p.m. at the Casper Events Center, and will feature 16 of Wyoming's marching bands. Each band will perform for about 15 minutes.
A debt unpaid
Jeers to Willis Chrans, a former Campbell County Commission chairman who was convicted last year of defrauding three Illinois doctors in an airline investment scheme. Chrans owes the doctors a total of $4.4 million, but according to their Wyoming lawsuit, they have never received the money ordered by the court.
Safety first
Cheers to Chief U.S. District Judge William Downes, who sided with the Jackson-based group Keep Yellowstone Nuclear Free in its request to review safety and engineering records of a Department of Energy advanced test nuclear reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory. The reactor is only 100 miles upwind of Yellowstone National Park.
Church crime spree
Jeers to thieves who have been targeting Riverton churches. Two weeks ago, money was stolen from two women's purses at a Methodist church. Last weekend, someone walked into Trinity Lutheran Church and took bags of money out of an unlocked safe. Cars were also ransacked in a Mormon church parking lot.
Happy to be there
Cheers to the 14,502 University of Wyoming fans who braved the elements last Saturday to watch the Cowboys defeat New Mexico, 37-13. Many found it difficult to get to War Memorial Stadium with local roads closed, as was Interstate 80. But they were rewarded by witnessing UW's best effort this season.
