This past weekend, the Casper Mountain Lion's Club closed the Braille Trail for its 35th season. The club would like to thank all those who used the trail, and for the great care in keeping it in top condition. Once again there was no damage or vandalism, which is a blessing. Over 325 hours were put into the upkeep of the trail this summer with about 15 Lions, their family members, and friends of the trail comprising the work parties.

This 35th year was an exceptionally busy one for the Lee McCune Braille Trail. Guests that signed the register numbered just over 2,000. Out-of-town guests came from all over the state -- Newcastle, Laramie, Rawlins, Buffalo, Gillette, Cheyenne, Green River, Riverton, Douglas, Glenrock. Twenty-eight states, including as far away as Alaska, were represented in the signatures of guests. We were extremely pleased to see that visitors came from eight countries other than the USA: Poland, England, Wales, the Netherlands, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Puerto Rico.

Especially encouraging were some of the extremely touching comments made by visitors: "Blessed are the ones who provide (this) for others." "What an amazing experience." "I loved it: what a treat for all people." "God's creation is beautiful."

Perhaps the comment that most meaningfully epitomizes the value of the Braille Trail as a service project: "I'm always amazed by the wonderful work of the Lion's Clubs of the world."

"Amen" to that!
