Recently two blue whales have washed up on California’s coast and I feel that there are things we can do to prevent the killing of these fascinating mammals.

We know little about these amazing animals, but maybe we should keep it this way for their sake. These beautiful animals are considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and are said to be at high risk of extinction living in the wild. The one that washed up on California's coast in October will remain there and will not be used for anything except for research. And don’t get me wrong, I think it is awesome getting the opportunity to do research on a blue whale for the fact that researchers don't often get to study such an extraordinary animal, but the whale shouldn't have to suffer either; they do no harm. Ships should be required to have radars that detect marine life around them so that they are aware and can help prevent any fatal injuries done to innocent animals like the blue whale.

These animals are suffering because we choose to be selfish. This is an animal that we should protect and preserve for as long as possible. It’s the biggest animal to ever exist, we should enjoy their presence. For some of us, it would be an experience of a lifetime to encounter a blue whale.
