Discrimination was obvious

I attended the football championships in Laramie and was very disappointed in the preparation and efforts put forth by the WHSAA.

Friday's games were played in adverse conditions and minimal effort by the crews to clear the fields. There was little available to the fans, as there were almost no concessions. One concession on the west side offered popcorn and minimal beverages with no hot beverages at all. Many fans had to leave the facilities and walk to get coffee or hot cocoa or food.

At half-time of the 2A game they spent minimal time to clear the end zones of snow and up to the 5-yard line of the north end while leaving it covered on the south end, which left unfair conditions to both teams. The stands were never cleared of any snow or ice and left very adverse conditions to the fans, an accident waiting to happen. Note they had lots of equipment available to clear snow or ice but never used them.

Saturday's games provided a completely different scenario; immediately after the completion of the 2A game the equipment came out in force and cleared the field completely of snow. Saturday morning all vendors were open and had all varieties of food and beverage available to all, the stands had ice melter applied, the crews were working to remove snow from the walkways, it appeared to the average fan that the state really went all out for the 3A and 4A divisions. Funny how a little money and population affects how they treat the kids; simply what I view as discrimination.

I believe there was plenty of time and equipment available to have cleared the field completely on Friday and given the kids the opportunity to play a better game. What is most sad is that the WHSAA believes that the important people who decide the fate of the future attended Saturday so that is why they made it look so good that day and that the little people who went Friday don't matter, so why spend money on them?

Remember we all pay taxes and we all deserve to be treated fairly. I believe the kids work hard all year to get the opportunity to play for a state title and should play in a game and a facility that appreciates their efforts to get there. The games Friday may have ended with the same scores or different scores; it just would've been nice to see them played on a good field, like they offered to the Saturday games!
