Editor:
In response to the Oct. 2 letter by Jess Hinkle ("Union bill hurts workers"), I would like to point out a few things.
The basic idea of the Employee Free Choice Act is to allow workers to join or form unions without corporate harassment. If Mr. Hinkle treats his employees well, he has nothing to fear. My guess is, he does not!
The Employee Free Choice Act was written to try and even the playing field somewhat. Corporate America has spent millions of dollars to defeat this bill, why? It's simple, unions fight to insure that working families that generate corporate wealth, receive a fair wage, benefits and also a voice in workplace safety and fair treatment.
People like Mr. Hinkle see no need for these things, after all, they might cut into his profits.
Unions were formed in the first place because of people like Mr. Hinkle. CEO to worker compensation has gone from 30-to-1, 40 years ago, to 350-to-1 today. Anyone that thinks that corporate America will ever share the wealth without being forced to is a fool!
