Editor:
This letter is in regards to Sally Ann Shurmur's well-written tribute to her father, Fritz Shurmur, who was a great person.
I approve greatly of the Wyoming High School Activities Association's decision to hold the state football championships at the UW Stadium (weather permitting).
As far as I know the only two people to coach a high school football game at War Memorial Stadium were myself and John Deti Sr. It was a great experience for me and the kids from Rock Springs. It was an even better experience for Coach Deti and the kids from Laramie; they won. I played high school basketball against John Deti Jr. with the same result.
I enjoyed knowing both of the Detis.
Getting back to Coach Shurmur, at the time I'm referring to, 1971, he was the head coach at UW and had a very important road game. Fritz took the time out of his busy schedule to stop by the stadium and shake hands with Coach Deti and I before the game.
Did I mention Fritz Shurmur was a great person?
