NC coaches let students down

I think we can all agree that high school athletics is an integral part of the educational process; if it wasn’t, it shouldn’t be part of the curriculum.

With that understanding, we should expect the best for our children in the area of athletics. I don’t think we have been getting that for our football players at Natrona County High School. They haven’t won a playoff game in several years yet they have had year after year some of the best talent in the state. Two years ago they undoubtedly had the best team, or at least one of the best teams, in the history of Wyoming football and couldn’t win a playoff game. This year, they did not play one game with better talent on the other side of the ball, yet they could only win two games.

The only common denominator I can see year after year is a coaching staff that is letting our children down. I’m not one who believes winning is everything. It isn’t. I do believe, however, that playing your best is everything. When a team loses because they were out played, the team needs to work harder, but when a team loses because they were out coached, they need to be coached better. When a team loses week after week only because of poor coaching, maybe it is time for a change.

I played at NC and then in college but don’t profess to know everything about football, but when I can guess the play calling in the stands, I’m pretty sure the opposing coach who studies the game films has a pretty good idea what play is coming also. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I played long enough to know that when a team makes early season mistakes late in the season, it’s because of coaching. I’ve been attending and support NC football for a long time and I am disappointed; I can only imagine how the kids must feel.
