I am 17 and attend Roosevelt High School. I am writing in regards to Path to 2025. A committee was put together in January 2008 that focuses on what education and schools will look like in the future. Audrey Cotherman, trustee on the Path to 2025 committee, said, "We won't understand where we're going until we have a very clear picture of what we're educating for."
Dr. Julia Collier Earl, a representative for the school board and the committee, dug through 15 years of research on secondary education. Her conclusion: Students today learn differently than students 30 years ago, but many middle and high schools have yet to catch up.
I think they are educating us for life after school. I believe that in order to move forward in education, we should go back to teaching the basics, like we did 30 years ago. By basics I mean reading, writing, simple math, simple science and history. I do not think we need to have all these extra programs, like the flying simulator at CY. Once we have the education process figured out, we can move forward with the building of the new high school and the improvements of Natrona County, Kelly Walsh, and Roosevelt.
