What happens when the lights go out in the city, or how about when the flashing red light on Limestone Peak flashes for the last time?

Well that is what is going to happen this week when a tower crew takes down the top portion of the tower that has the red beacon light and old analog bat wing antenna that used to broadcast an analog channel 4 signal for a quarter of a century to Fremont County residents.

For those of you who see this flashing red light every night from your window or house, it's a reminder of a tower that sits over 200 feet high on a mountain that is at least 9,000 feet in height.

I have enjoyed this flashing red beacon every time that I drive back from Riverton at night whether on Highway 789 or Lyons Valley Road or near a ridge high enough to remind me of where to point an antenna.

I will miss this flashing beacon that can be seen in central Fremont County, but life goes on and this will make less of a wind load on the existing tower that has the digital antennas and FM antennas for Wyoming PBS and KCWC-FM.
