If you want to know why senators are for or against something, like fixing health care, go to www.opensecrets.org, click on politicians and elections, congress, state, and page down to the state and member you wish to investigate. You can then click on industries and see which industries provided campaign funds for that senator.

Remember this money is collected by these industries from the American people and funneled to candidates to influence legislation that protects their industries and generally may not be in the best interest of the general public which provided the money.

Check out Sens. Ben Nelson, Nebraska; Orrin Hatch, Utah; Max Baucus, Montana, as well as Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, Wyoming. Information on who has contributed and how much is informative and hopefully will lead to positive changes.

There is no doubt that term limits and public financing of elections are good ideas. All future candidates should be asked to sign a pledge to support a constitutional amendment for term limits and public financing of elections. Campaign money comes from the American public and gives us very little influence. Change is overdue.
