In rebuttal to Jess Hinkle's letter, "Union bill hurts workers," Letters/Oct. 2.
Jess, you seem paranoid by the union movement. It sounds to me like you probably don't want to pay a decent wage or pay any benefits.
After World War II the unions got going and there was prosperity in the United States as people had decent jobs with benefits and spent their money in the places they lived.
Yes, the EFCA would make it easier to unionize, but you have a lot of wrong information. Not all businesses need to be unionized, as some still do treat their employees fairly and pay a decent wage as well as benefit package. Others pad their pockets off the labor of the poor and those in bad financial condition. Wyoming being a "right to work" for less state enabled employers to get away from paying a decent wage, let alone having benefits. Many people are scared of unions because employers threaten them and downright lie.
Yes, the unions have lost members because greedy companies and corporations moved overseas. The steel industry left when Ronald Reagan was in there. Textiles followed. Big business has betrayed American workers by taking advantage of the poor in other countries. Guess who's poor now? American businesses made China rich. Traitors! There aren't many good jobs left but the cost of living hasn't gone down, has it? Vast wealth has gone into relatively few pockets. This must change. Every worker deserves a decent wage as well as health insurance.
When George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were in there the upper 1 percent of earners' wealth went up 535 percent in eight years. One percent have 30 percent of the wealth.
We will soon be like Mexico if things don't change. The rich vs. the poor.
