Editor:
Our educational system should be a place where our children can go and gain excessive knowledge and a strong foundation for life. This isn't the case in schools here in Casper. In our grade schools, our children are being allowed to use foul language in their writing papers and watch videos that contain bleeps in place of the bad language. I have never been allowed to use foul language in my grade schooling and I came from New York.
Today, I attend school at Casper College and I took some criminal justice classes. In these classes, we had to watch videos from the inmates of high security prisons. Now, most of us accept that due to overwhelming anger these people use bad language. Yet, in this class we didn't experience any demoralizing use of language and/or thoughts from writing papers or movies. The teachers at Casper College do not allow any kind of bad attitudes - much less bad language. So, why are our children being subject to this in our schools here in Casper?
The courts are debating if we should use the national anthem because of the word God in our school systems. When is someone going to speak up about the abuse we have to tolerate in this country? When are we going to look at what really matters? Never!
We hear foul language on the TV, radio and now some of our teachers are letting our teenagers use it in their writings. It took us decades to finally come up with the Children Act of 1989. I can see why. We aren't much different than the animal world and people in America aren't. If we compare ourselves to other countries, America really does run on anger, fear and demoralization. Where are our morals? This country is definitely running from something.
