Shut out by court, paper

My family, neighbors, and I have been shocked and disgusted twice this day.

First, we learned that the Supreme Court chose not to allow the citizens of Wyoming one minute. Yes, one minute -- by University of Wyoming graduate and former counsel to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Benjamin Barr to add to the ongoing review of the landmark free speech case "Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission."

The FEC chose to muzzle Citizen United's documentary critical of Hillary Clinton via the McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Act. At best this is a heinous attack on First Amendment freedom of expression, and at worst, treason.

Second, and just as disturbing, the "Managing Editor/State and Online" of the statewide Casper-Star Tribune, "Wyoming's News Source," apparently chooses to ignore this watershed test of whether this, or any government agency should have the ability to limit the free press and freedom to bolster, or criticize a candidate, any time.

As a direct beneficiary of First Amendment protections, and citizens of the "Equality State," you and your organization should not be ignoring this brave defense of liberty. You should be leading it.
