UW hosts energy economics conference today

LARAMIE - Sinclair Oil's president will be among the panelists at an energy economics conference at the University of Wyoming Union today.

UW officials will welcome participants at 8 a.m. and Rob Hurless, energy advisor to Gov. Dave Freudenthal, will discuss "Wyoming's role in the energy equation" at 8:15.

Peter Johnson of Sinclair will join representatives from Anadarko, Wyoming Business Alliance and Bridger Pipeline on a panel discussing the economics of the oil and gas industry at 8:45.

Representatives from Foundation Coal and Black Hills Corporation will discuss the economics of the coal industry at 10 a.m., followed by a focus on the economics of the uranium industry at 11:15.

In the afternoon, UW professors and staff personnel will discuss the "economics of renewables" at 1:15, followed by a panel on sustainable business practices in the energy industry at 2:30. The conference will conclude with a panel on "business ethics and the energy industry" at 3:45.

Kent Noble, UW College of Business assistant dean, said moderators will elicit discussion by questioning the panelists, to be followed by questions from the audience.
