CHEYENNE (AP) - Democrat Gary Trauner hinted in a video blog interview that he intended to make a second run for Wyoming's lone U.S. House seat in 2008, but later said he has yet to make a decision.
On Aug. 5, Trauner gave an interview in Chicago to TPMtv - a video branch of the blog Talking Points Memo. It can be seen on YouTube.com.
"I'm trying to get myself prepared - I'm definitely going to be running again," Trauner said. "I'm pretty sure it will be for the same seat, but I'm not 100 percent there yet."
At the end, the interviewer said, "There you have it, Gary Trauner, undecided for which seat he will be run for in 2008, but will be running for one of them."
Trauner added: "Keep your eye out for the House seat, I think you might as well just say it."
On Thursday, Trauner told the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle that he "probably got ahead of myself."
"I haven't made any formal decision or any formal announcement," he said.
Trauner lost a close race last year to incumbent Republican Barbara Cubin.
In a statement, Wyoming GOP Chairman Fred Parady "lamented the perpetual campaign for Congress conducted by … Trauner."
"I find it curious that Gary Trauner would announce his campaign to a bunch of far-left bloggers … and not to the people of Wyoming, in Wyoming," Parady said.
Trauner, a Wilson businessman, said the GOP was repeating attack tactics it tried unsuccessfully to use against Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal during the last election season.
Cubin has not announced her intentions for 2008.
Both Cubin and Trauner have filed statements of candidacy, a federal requirement for potential candidates who receive $5,000 or more in campaign contributions.
