There's nothing better than having the right tools for a job. If I may be permitted a smaller comparison, we more or less replaced our tiny, antique Web publishing "hand tools" with full-powered industrial tools.

We've got some really exciting things in the pipe for the next few weeks, and I can't wait to show them off.

Here's one sneak peak: Get ready for live, streaming audio coverage of the Wyoming State High School Football Championships and similar events in the very near future.

On Friday and Saturday, legendary Wyoming sportscaster George Kay will be joined by current Star-Tribune Managing Editor and former Sports Editor Ron Gullberg in the booth, as the two broadcast all five title games on www.trib.com.

And the news around TribTown:

Prolific TribTowner MSmith posed the following query, in regard to the accomplishments of a historical figure who influenced how the modern world developed:

"John Wycliffe, a true visionary, theologian and statesman to whom we give little thought or credit to today. Who in our generation will leave a legacy as remarkable as his?"

I thought this was an interesting idea; not at all unlike the various essays that I would find myself writing around this time of year while growing up.

What modern individual has made such a significant impression on you? Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the person has to have been born by 1930. He or she can be from any country and any profession. I just want to know who and why you picked him or her. Either post them on TribTown at http://tribtown.trib.com/Jake, or email me at jake.mitchell@trib.com.

I'd like to take a minute to welcome the Star-Tribune's new cops beat reporter, William Browning, to TribTown. Here is his introduction to the crime blog:

"Three introductory notes to the crime blog. First. We'll stick to the truth, and after that maybe offer a dab of opinion.

"Second. We'll discuss Casper and Wyoming crime and courts. From alleged incidents to arrests to courtroom dramas and shenanigans to not guilty or guilty verdicts to sentences handed down. We'll have fun but hopefully sometimes push the paint around on some heavier, serious issues and maybe -- whether a pretty picture or painful one -- do some good.

"Third. You'll get three items a week from me, that's a promise. You'll get the odd tidbits and hay combed out of crime/court stories prior to publication. I hope to get just as many slices a week from your end. Tell me what you think, believe, know, heard and want to read about when it comes to crime and the court system in Casper and Wyoming."

Check out William's blog at http://TribTown.trib.com/WilliamBrowning/blog, and I'll hope you join me in welcoming him to TribTown and our discussion.

I can't wait to show off what we've got up our sleeves.
