Green River names councilman

GREEN RIVER -- Green River native and longtime volunteer Carl A. Morck was selected by city council members Tuesday night to fill a vacancy on the seven-member board.

Morck will represent the residents of Ward 1 on the city's north side. He will replace councilman Angelo Kallas, who moved from the city to take a new job.

The council interviewed four candidates before selecting Morck, who has served on a slew of boards and committees in Green River and Sweetwater County over the years, including the Parks and Recreation Board and the city's Greenbelt Committee.

Services set for Hansen

CHEYENNE -- Memorial services will be held in Cheyenne on Saturday and in Jackson on Tuesday for former governor and U.S. Sen. Clifford Hansen.

Hansen died Tuesday in Jackson at age 97.

After the Capitol event, there will be a 1:30 p.m. memorial service at the Cheyenne Civic Center. Both events are open to the public.

St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson will hold a funeral service for Hansen at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Symposium gets motivational speaker

CHEYENNE -- Wyoming has hired a motivational speaker to replace a top federal energy official who canceled her keynote address at a symposium on western energy issues.

Wyoming is paying for officials from 14 states to attend the Western States Energy and Environment Symposium on Sunday through Tuesday in Jackson.

Organizers say motivational speaker Joe Malarkey will give a keynote address now that Assistant Energy Secretary Catherine Zoi has canceled.

Other federal officials including U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu also have declined invitations to attend.

Event organizer Rep. Tom Lubnau, a Gillette Republican, said the speakers aren't as important as the work that state lawmakers will do to coordinate their approach to energy issues.
