JACKSON (AP) - United Airlines will fly daily between Jackson and Chicago this winter.

A 188-seat Boeing 757 will fly the route, adding to daily flights that American Airlines has been flying between Chicago and Jackson, according to Jackson Hole Airport Improvement Resource and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Last winter, United flew between Jackson and Chicago only once a week, on Saturdays.

Mike Gierau, chairman of JH AIR, hailed the new United service.

"Chicago is such an important hub for both American and United," he said. "This gives more opportunity for the traveling public - both locals and visitors."

He said the daily flights would enable Jackson's resorts to bring in skiers from the Northeast and Midwest, both significant markets for ski tourism.

A round-trip ticket in January between Jackson and Chicago on the new flight cost $458, according to a recent search on United.com.

United also will fly daily between Jackson and Denver, while American will offer daily service between Jackson and Dallas. Delta Airlines will fly between Jackson and Salt Lake City route seven days a week.

Delta also will provide service to Cincinnati and Atlanta. On the weekend, United will fly a Jackson-to-Los Angeles route.

JH AIR has contracted with United to provide a revenue guarantee for service to Denver and Los Angeles. American has revenue guarantees for the Chicago and Dallas flights, and Delta has contracts for Atlanta, Cincinnati and Salt Lake City.

The new United flight to Chicago is not under contract with JH AIR, a not-for-profit corporation charged with improving airline service to Jackson Hole.

The corporation represents lodging, restaurants, banks and retail businesses in the valley and is supported heavily by Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
