Truck tire injures trooper

ROCK SPRINGS -- A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper received minor injuries when her patrol car was struck by a tire that came off a truck on Interstate 80.

Patrol Lt. Scott Keane said trooper Carla Nichols was traveling eastbound on I-80 around 1:30 p.m. Monday after being dispatched to an accident.

She began to slow and turn around in the medium when an oncoming semi truck lost a tire.

Keane said Nichols noticed the tire approaching and was able to turn the car so the tire impacted the side of her vehicle.

He said Nichols was treated and released at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

Keane said the accident involved some type of mechanical failure on the truck but investigators are still looking into the incident.

Bicycle theft rises in Powell

POWELL -- Crime cycle has taken on a new meaning in Powell.

Police say they have received reports of 17 bike thefts in the past week. Only three stolen bikes have been recovered.

In two separate instances, police officers found abandoned cycles, and while taking them back to the station, their owners reported them stolen.

Powell police Sgt. Alan Kent said the number of stolen bike reports and the fact that the missing bikes don't turn up later somewhere in town is unusual.

Kent said most of the stolen bikes are being taken from yards.

He advises people to put their bikes in the garage or lock them up.
