LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A complaint has been filed contesting the city-wide vote approving of a ban on public smoking.
The complaint by six Laramie residents was filed last Friday in Albany County District Court. It names the city council and city clerk.
It seeks to have the ordinance struck down because of failure to comply with law governing special elections and referendums, according to Janet Tyler, attorney for the six residents.
"It was put together too quickly and because of that I think there were a lot of irregularities that occurred, not necessarily intentionally, but it does call into question the election," Tyler said.
The ordinance, which passed by 366 votes in the Nov. 2 election, prohibits smoking in public places, including restaurants and bars.
