CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Laramie County Community College planned to open a new training center to teach workers the ins and outs of integrated, automated mechanical, electronic and hydraulic systems.
Kathy Emmons, director of the state Department of Workforce Services, said the program will include training for such systems as automated sinks and toilets in airports, restaurants and other businesses.
"If one of those breaks, do you call a plumber or an electrician?" Emmons asked.
"It's a fairly unique training opportunity where you can cross-train," Emmons said. "It will help people come out with multiple area training."
Wyoming will have one of five such centers that the U.S. Labor Department is helping to fund throughout the country. The center was funded through grants from the Labor Department and the state.
Classes will be offered on weekends and in weeklong segments, and an associate's degree program will be available.
"It really touches so many kinds of industries," Emmons said. "It can go all the way across the spectrum from manufacturing to distribution to printing."
