Three people died in motorcycle accidents on Wyoming in the past week, according to press releases from the Wyoming Highway Patrol issued Friday.

- On Friday, 53-year-old Clarence A. Pugh of Wichita, Kan., died in a head-on collision with a pickup 36 miles west of Cody on U.S. Highway 14-16-20 between Wapiti and Yellowstone National Park.

Pugh and his wife, Debra, were riding eastbound on their 2008 Honda Goldwing.

Thomas H. Potts, 72, of Fallon, Nev., was driving westbound in a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup when he apparently fell asleep about 9 a.m. and his pickup drifted across the center line and collided with the motorcycle. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side in the right of way.

The Pughs, who were wearing helmets, were ejected from the motorcycle.

Clarence Pugh was pronounced dead at the scene. Debra Pugh was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont., for treatment.

Potts, who was wearing his seatbelt, was taken to the West Park Hospital in Cody for treatment.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol has been investigating the accident and will pass its findings to the Park County Attorney for review and determination of any charges.

- Earlier last week, 53-year-old Joseph W. Franks of Lingle was riding a 2002 Yamaha Vstar Warrior westbound on Wyoming Highway 156 three miles south of Lingle about 8 p.m. Monday.

Franks failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The motorcycle went off the right side of the road, rolled onto its left side, struck a road approach and ejected Franks, who was not wearing a helmet.

Because he and the motorcycle came to rest on an embankment, they were not discovered until 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when a walking passer-by saw them.

Highway Patrol troopers believe excessive speed contributed to the crash.

- On June 14, 19-year-old Krista L. Gisvold of Grand Forks, N.D., died in a two-motorcycle crash eight miles south of Douglas on Wyoming Highway 91.

Gisvold was a passenger with 23-year-old Michael J. Witbrod of Douglas on a 2007 Honda motorcycle.

The couple was following 23-year-old Ryan S. Follum of Douglas, who was riding a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle.

AT 7:10 p.m., Follum braked when he saw someone he knew pass in the opposite direction. Witbrod collided into the rear of Follum.

Witbrod and Gisvold were ejected from their motorcycle. Both bikes sustained heavy damage and came to rest in the road.

None of the riders wore helmets, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
