WASHINGTON - The family of Sen. Craig Thomas, R-Wyo., has scheduled memorial and burial services for the late senator in Wyoming later this week. Thomas, 74, died Monday after suffering from leukemia.
The senator will be honored at a public service in Casper on Saturday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. He will then be buried Sunday in a private service in his hometown of Cody.
His family is also trying to arrange a military memorial for the senator in Washington on Friday, said Thomas spokesman Cameron Hardy.
The weekend's events are "a really important time to be reflecting on the life of a man who dedicated his life to the people of Wyoming," Hardy said.
Thomas was hospitalized with leukemia just before his 2006 election to a third term. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and four children.
