CHEYENNE - A 19-year-old South Dakota man died in a multiple-car wreck about 4:18 p.m. Monday as he was exiting Wyoming Technical Institute just north of Laramie.
The victim was identified as Casey S. Braun of Sioux Falls, S.D., according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatcher.
Braun was a student at the school, known as WyoTech, a school official said.
The dispatcher said Braun left the school is a green 1995 Pontiac two-door attempting to head southbound on U.S. Highway 30 when his car was struck on the driver's side by a green 1993 Dodge pickup traveling northbound on the highway.
The collision spun Braun's vehicle, and he was ejected, the dispatcher said.
Then two other pickups, a red 1992 Chevrolet and a red and gold 1997 GMC, both going southbound on Highway 30, collided with each other before running into Braun's Pontiac.
The Chevrolet driver, Todd A. Lukenbill of Pflugerville, Texas, was hospitalized from the crash, while the other people involved were treated at a hospital and released, according to the dispatcher.
The dispatcher identified the others as Dodge driver Chad S. Clelland, 19, of Pleasanton, Calif.; GMC driver Daniel R. Wickersham, 18, of West Grove, Penn.; and GMC passenger Michael A. Luman, 21, of Green Valley, Calif.
The dispatcher said the crash was still under investigation Tuesday, and she did not know if authorities had issued any citations.
The speed limit is 50 mph on the stretch of Highway 30 that runs past WyoTech.
