A Denver man suspected of supplying methamphetamine to Wyoming faces federal drug charges after state agents arrested him with the help of an informant.

Federal authorities unsealed their case against Jonas Allen this week after he appeared in U.S. District Court in Casper on drug charges that could send him to prison for life.

Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation arrested Allen on June 25 after a confidential informant arranged to meet him in Wheatland to purchase methamphetamine and trade him a Ducati motorcycle, according to a DCI agent's affidavit.

Authorities say they found roughly 150 grams of methamphetamine in Allen's car and nearly $3,000 in his wallet and pockets.

In an interview after his arrest, Allen denied having plans to sell the drugs. He claimed they were for his personal use, according to investigators.

Allen's attorney, Ryan Healy of Sheridan, declined comment Friday.

In mid-June, a man who'd been arrested for meth possession and was being held in Casper told investigators Allen was his largest supplier of the drug, the affidavit states. The man, who is described as a confidential informant in court papers, claimed he had been buying methamphetamine from Allen in quarter-pound quantities for several months.

The informant said he had bought a total of an estimated 679 grams - roughly a pound and a half - of the drug. He also told investigators Allen had driven to Casper to sell methamphetamine.

With agents listening in, the informant, who had already agreed to trade his motorcycle to Allen to erase a debt, allegedly arranged to buy several thousand dollars worth of methamphetamine from him as well.

The two men arranged to meet June 25. According to authorities, Allen called the informant at about 7:15 p.m. to say he was waiting in a gray Hyundai at Arby's fast food restaurant in Wheatland.

Agents went to the restaurant and found Allen and a woman in the car, the affidavit states. They discovered a brown case between the driver's door and seat that contained 150 grams of methamphetamine and plastic bags.

In an interview at the Wheatland Police Department, Allen said he was a heavy meth user and had been unable to kick his drug addiction, according to the affidavit. However, he maintained he hadn't come to Wheatland to sell drugs.

Federal prosecutors charged Allen with conspiring to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and possessing the drug with the intent to distribute it.

Allen is scheduled to return to federal court in Casper on Monday for preliminary and detention hearings. He remains held at Natrona County Detention Center.
