Saratoga Inn main lodge springs leak
SARATOGA - In the early morning hours Wednesday, a cascade of water poured down through the ceiling into the east wing hall of the historic Saratoga Inn, which is now known as the Saratoga Resort and Spa.
Because of the building's 1950's era construction, the water damage was confined to the ceiling and floor areas of the hall, Spa Maintenance Supervisor Tim Dady said. Excess water was vacuumed up and the hall carpet was pulled up so the sub-floor could dry out.
Only a few rooms had to be closed and the Spa will continue in full operation while repairs are made to the main lodge fire system, according to Spa Assistant Manager Laurie Johnston.
Saratoga police received a 911 call at 4:23 a.m. from the Spa reporting water pouring from the ceiling. A city water department employee responded to the property and found the fire alarm going off and water coming from the hallway ceiling.
The Spa manager was called and Spa staff responded and turned off the water to the lodge fire system.
A two-inch water pipe feeding the building's sprinkler system above the ceiling apparently froze during the recent cold spell and burst when the weather warmed, according to Dady.
Saratoga Public Works Director Chuck Bartlett estimated the water loss to be in excess of 200,000 gallons.
