YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - The deadline for the latest public comment period for a proposed courthouse at Mammoth Hot Springs has been extended from Nov. 17 to Nov. 24.
The Yellowstone Justice Center would have a courtroom, jail and offices for the U.S. Marshals Service and National Park Service law enforcement, Park Service officials said Monday.
It would serve the same purpose as some historic buildings in Mammoth Hot Springs that no longer meet requirements for space, safety, security and building codes.
Last year, more than 600 court cases were heard in Mammoth Hot Springs, more than any other judicial district in Wyoming.
The Park Service sought public comments on the project last year but received just seven letters. Park Superintendent Suzanne Lewis then asked for an update of the proposal.
About an acre would be affected by the two-story, 17,000-square-foot building, which would cover about 5,700 square feet.
Comments can be mailed to Yellowstone Justice Center EA, Planning Office, P.O. Box 168, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190. Copies of the report can be obtained by calling the park at (307) 344-2018.
