Key results from exit polling in Tuesday's Wyoming elections:
HOUSE RACE:
BARBARA CUBIN STRENGTHS: Incumbent U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin had strong support among Republicans and those who consider themselves conservative.
GARY TRAUNER STRENGTHS: Democratic challenger Gary Trauner had strong support among Democrats and those who consider themselves liberal.
SENATE RACE:
CRAIG THOMAS STRENGTHS: Sen. Craig Thomas strongly held his Republican base and also led among those who identified themselves as independent or another party. He did well across all age groups and all income levels, but did best among those with a family income of $50,000 to $74,999 a year.
DALE GROUTAGE STRENGTHS: Challenger Dale Groutage won among voters who identified themselves as Democrats. GOVERNOR RACE:
DAVE FREUDENTHAL STRENGTHS: Gov. Dave Freudenthal carried the Democratic vote, split the Republican vote and did strongly among those who identify themselves as independents or something else. He won among those who identify themselves as liberals or moderates. He won across all age groups, especially those ages 18 to 29 and across all incomes, especially those with a family income of between $75,000 to $99,999.
RAY HUNKINS STRENGTHS: Challenger Ray Hunkins held a slight lead among voters who identify themselves as conservative.
NATIONAL ISSUES: Wyoming voters polled approve of the job President Bush is doing, approve of the U.S. war in Iraq and have a favorable opinion of Vice President Dick Cheney, a Wyoming native. However, all those approval numbers are down sharply from 2004.
IRAQ WAR: Wyoming is one of five states among 32 with exit polls that approve of the U.S. war in Iraq.
Exit poll conducted for The Associated Press and television networks by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International among 787 voters around Wyoming as they left 15 randomly elected precincts Tuesday. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 5 percentage points for the overall sample, larger for subgroups.
