SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - A 34-year military veteran has received one of the Army's highest honors.
Maj. Gen. Ed Wright presented Chief Warrant Officer Edwin Calkins with the Legion of Merit award during a ceremony at the Sheridan National Guard Armory. He retired from the Wyoming Army National Guard in 2003.
According to Guard officials, Calkins received the award for his duration of service and numerous achievements.
Calkins has also received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Meritorious Service Award and three bronze stars for his service in Vietnam.
"It's quite an honor," he said. "It's something I wasn't expecting."
A member of the Sheridan Community Federal Credit Union board of directors, Calkins formerly worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
