DCI probes death at plant
The death of a 35-year-old Glenrock woman is being investigated by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
Joleen Rae "Snooky" Campbell died near the Dave Johnston power plant on Sunday, according to her obituary. She was hit by a vehicle, according to her father, John Campbell of Glenrock.
She was employed by Peak One Security, according to PacifiCorp, which owns and operates the plant. DCI investigator Dan Stewart said his agency was asked to investigate the incident.
Stewart said he could not give any information about the incident, only that it is being investigated.
"We don't know if there's been a crime," Stewart said Thursday.
Campbell's father, John Campbell, said he has been stonewalled by every agency involved in the response and investigation of the incident that killed his daughter. He said the Converse County Sheriff's Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, PacifiCorp, DCI and others who responded to the incident refuse to give him any information.
WYDOT confirms safety of bridges
CHEYENNE - Inspectors with the Wyoming Department of Transportation say they have confirmed the safety of two bridges in the state with a similar design to the highway bridge that collapsed last week in Minneapolis.
Inspectors certified the Snake River Bridge at Hoback Junction and the Fremont County bridge over the Wyoming Canal.
Inspection of the third similar bridge is scheduled to begin early next week. It's the Interstate 25 service road bridge over the South Fork of the Powder River, south of Kaycee.
The two-day inspection of the U.S. Highway 26-89 bridge over the Snake River south of Jackson found that no immediate repairs are needed. The department reports there are no concerns about the safety of the bridge.
Inspectors noted that the paint on the bridge is deteriorating, but noted no cracks in the steel components.
The inspection of the Fremont County Road No. 298 bridge, about 40 miles northwest of Riverton, found no cause for safety concerns. The department stated that the bridge is classified as structurally deficient because it can't carry current traffic loads. A weight restriction is in place.
Crew rescues missing woman
PHILLIPS, Neb. - A Nebraska State Patrol helicopter crew found a 67-year-old Wyoming woman more than two miles from the campground she had wandered from, authorities said.
The crew found Marlene Kaas conscious but dehydrated Wednesday after authorities searched for more than 24 hours, Hamilton County Sheriff Kirk Handrup said.
Kaas, who has Alzheimer's disease, was found in a field surrounded by waist-deep water, sitting on a fence, the patrol said in a news release.
Handrup said Kaas was taken to Aurora Memorial Hospital. She was in stable condition Thursday, a hospital official said.
Kaas was staying at the KOA campground near the Phillips Interstate 80 interchange in south-central Nebraska. She had been reported missing by her husband on Tuesday.
