LOST SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - Thanks, but no thanks.
That's what Mayor Leda Price told a New York fitness expo company that wanted to buy this remote town, population five, in east-central Wyoming.
The inquiry came from Mike Starr, chief branding officer for Better Your Body, who was brainstorming a marketing campaign that called for shaping up the whole nation, one person at a time. "What better way to start than with our own city?" Starr told the Douglas Budget.
Located 25 miles from the nearest town, Lost Springs is remote even by Wyoming standards, and is the least populated town in the least populated state, according to census figures.
A sign defiantly reads "Population: 1" even though the actual figure is five times higher.
Price said she felt honored by the interest. "But nothing around here is for sale," she said.
Better Your Body, based in College Point, N.Y., plans to host a series of fitness events starting with next year's Better Your Body Health and Fitness Expo, according to its Web site.
"Most people couldn't make it out here because we are so secluded and winters can be severe," Price said. "Life here is just not for everybody."
