Motion: Former defender faked tests

POWELL - Prosecutors filed a motion to revoke Richard J. Albanese's bond after the former public defender allegedly tried to fake a urine test.

According to court documents, Albanese used a prosthetic device to fake a urine test on Feb. 3. Albanese refused to give another urine test, but a subsequent breath test showed .05 percent blood-alcohol content.

Prosecutors said Albanese also tried to fake a urine test in October, when a subsequent test showed traces of amphetamines.

No decision has been made yet on the motion to revoke bond.

Albanese was pulled over Aug. 20 for failing to stop at a stop sign; police reported finding methamphetamine, marijuana, a prescription painkiller and open bottles of whiskey and beer in the car. Albanese was charged with both felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges, and resigned his public defender position days later.

Resort considers its lift options

JACKSON - Jackson Hole Mountain Resort officials are focusing on replacing the resort's aerial tram with either another tram or a two-cable gondola, they said Monday. Financing is being discussed "internally."

"We have decided at this time to not concentrate our efforts on outright appropriation but instead are researching other public and private financing mechanisms," resort President Jerry Blann said in a statement.

The resort had floated the idea of seeking state funding to help replace the tram, saying it is a state icon and helps generate tourist dollars. That idea was tabled for the current legislative session.

The tram will not be in operation next winter, and officials said they are looking to install a temporary double chairlift up Rendezvous Bowl. They also intend to buy 18 new cabins for the Bridger Gondola to bring 600 more skiers up the lift in an hour.

Chief contacts Hells Angels

CODY - The police chief says he has been in touch with a spokesman for the Hells Angels ahead of the biker group's planned gathering here in July.

Police Chief Perry Rockvam said he has e-mailed and spoken on the phone with George Christie of Ventura, Calif.

"The communication he and I have established has been really good," Rockvam said Monday.

He declined to say specifically what they talked about, but said the group and police understand each other's expectations ahead of the Hells Angels 2006 World Run.

Rockvam also said that based on his conversations with Christie, he expects a high turnout for the gathering, but declined to estimate how many people might attend.

"I was pretty honest with him as to what they can expect when they get here," he said. "They know by them coming to Cody, it draws a lot of interest from both the media and the citizens."

The event is scheduled for July 26-30, ahead of the annual Sturgis, S.D., motorcycle rally Aug. 8-14.
