LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming staff and employees of the design firm MIG will present a draft long-range development plan for the school to trustees next month.
MIG consultant and partner Dan Iacofano said the final approval stage will likely come in January.
The draft plan calls for a linked series of green space and social gathering places along the campus, as well as potential new parking areas with as many as 3,200 parking spaces. That would leave intact the current makeup of UW's developed campus, which is half green space, one-quarter parking and one-quarter buildings.
The plan also calls for some changes to traffic patterns around the university.
It goes to the UW Board of Trustees on Nov. 19.
Early in the process, MIG identified Prexy's Pasture as definitive of many traits unique to the UW campus, and something that could be repeated with great success in many other parts of campus.
Displaying a network of lines connecting multiple patches of green in nearly every potential corner of UW, Iacofano said Prexy's is a good blueprint for UW's future growth.
"We said it was the armature for the build-out of this campus," Iacofano said. "From Prexy's to Fraternity Mall, there would be a continuous spine linking every part of campus with green, social gathering places."
A linked spine of green spaces helps other factors, such as human and vehicular traffic, take shape.
"All of this indicates a possible build-out scenario and a way to arrange buildings in the future on campus," Iacofano said.
