School supplies
* Beginning Aug. 3 and throughout the month, Cheyenne community volunteers are requesting school-supply donations for the annual Back to School supply drive for needy students in Laramie County. Donation bins will be located at Super Wal-Mart, Kmart, Walgreens, F.E. Warren Air Force Base Education Office, United Medical Center, Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Laramie County School District 1 administration building, WSLC, Boys and Girls Club, and Needs Inc. Basic school supplies needed include pencils, crayons, scissors, rulers, glue, loose-leaf paper, and spiral notebooks. Distribution will begin Aug. 22 at Needs Inc. Info: (307) 632-0409.
Sheridan area libraries
* Aug. 3, 10:30 a.m. Story Branch Library storytime. From 1-2:30 p.m., children ages 6-10 are invited to a Summer Reading Program.
* Aug. 4, 6 p.m., inner circle. "Teen Screen: A Knight @ The Movies" for young adults. Popcorn and soft drinks will be served.
* Aug. 6, 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Aug. 7. "End of Summer Locke-Inn" for teens who have read three books and attended two SCFPL Young Adult activities are eligible to participate. Movies, games and entertainment are scheduled. Parent/guardian permission is required; forms are available at the main desk.

Statewide government
* Wyoming Livestock Board public board meeting, Aug. 11, 11 a.m., Pronghorn Lodge's Monarch Conference Hall, 150 E. Main St., Lander. Agenda: Adoption of Chapter 13 Scrapie Rules; presentation of other Brand Recording/Inspection, Animal Health, and Law Enforcement topics.
* The Governor's Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities hosts public statewide forums through Sept. 13. People of all ages and those involved in the lives of those with developmental disabilities are invited to attend and participate. Children and Families Initiative
* Community meetings intended to develop goals for improving the lives of youths are being held throughout the state through August, conducted by the University of Wyoming Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

North Dakota Picnic
* Aug. 6, 11 a.m., Kiwanis Picnic Shelter in Northside Park, Lander. The 16th annual event features a carry-in dinner, served at noon sharp. Attendees may bring any visiting or transplanted North Dakotans as well as other visiting family and friends. Info: (307) 332-4093 or (307) 332-5582.
Wyoming State Fair
* Registration ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 10 for the 2005 Mutton Bustin' contest, scheduled Aug. 18 during PRCA Extreme Bull Riding and Aug. 19-20 during the PRCA Rodeo. * Antique Tractor Show and Pull, Aug. 12, 6 p.m. Upon arrival, all tractors will be weighed and placed in 14 different classes from 2,800 lbs. to 12,000 lbs. Other rules apply. Competition begins at 7 p.m.; spectator admission is free. Info: DeWayne Larsen, (307) 265-7245.
* The annual Douglas Volunteer Fire Department Demolition Derby starts at 7 p.m. Aug. 13. Spectator admission is $9 each. Pre-entry contestant fees by Aug. 12 are $65 per car; at entry gate on Aug. 13, $85 per car; and re-entry, $65 per car. Entries must be paid in cash, money order, cashier's check, or company check. * The fair takes place Aug. 13-20 at Wyoming State Fairgrounds, Douglas. Tickets are available at the state fair administrative office on Meadowlark Lane in State Fair Park. Gate admission is free at 6 p.m. Aug. 13-Aug. 15; $3 Aug. 16-18; and $5 Aug. 19-20. Children ages 8 and under get in free with a paying adult. A commemorative season pin pass provides unlimited daily access for six days; it is $15 if purchased by Aug. 1 and $20 afterward. ADA parking is available on the grounds at various locations. * Pioneer Day is Aug. 18; senior citizens ages 62 and older are admitted for $1.
DART training
* Aug. 17, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., east side of Highway 341 on the southern edge of Arvada, just before the road crosses the bridge over the Powder River. Campbell, Johnson, Sheridan County Weed and Pest District, Wyoming Department of Agriculture and Wyoming Pest Detection Program will present "Detect-Assess-Respond-Training" as part of Wyoming's Early Detection Rapid Response Pest Detection Program. DART will educate citizens on how to identify noxious weeds already in the county and those that can potentially establish themselves in the future; and how to report new pest infestations.
