Open houses

* June 28, University of Wyoming College of Agriculture's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Experiment Center, 2 miles west of Lingle on Highway 157. Refreshments will be offered at 9:30 a.m. and tours start at 10 a.m. A free barbecue lunch will be provided. The open house will end about 1 p.m.

* June 28, 5-8 p.m., Jackson Hole Middle School auxiliary gymnasium. A public open house for the Grand Teton National Park Transportation Plan/Draft Environmental Impact Statement will take place. Grizzly bear program

* June 28, 7 p.m., Sinks Canyon State Park Visitor Center, south of Lander. Retired U.S. government scientist Chuck Neal will present a slide show, "Grizzly Bears in Wyoming and the West." Admission is free. Info: (307) 332-3077.

Children and Families Initiative

* Community meetings intended to develop goals for improving the lives of youths are being held throughout the state through August, conducted by the University of Wyoming Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

State government

* Select committee on legislative facilities, June 30, 1 p.m., Room 302 State Capitol, Cheyenne.

*Joint transportation, Highways and Military Affairs interim committee, June 30-July 1, 8 :30 a.m., Wyoming State Fairgrounds Douglas. Agenda: Interim study topics, including uninsured motorists, multi-lane highways, drivers' education, and National Guard armories.

July 4 parades

* Fourth of July Parade packets are now available at Campbell County Pool. This year's theme is "Festival of Freedom." Judged categories will be theme and youth floats. Info: (307) 682-5470.

* Registration deadline is July 1 for Guernsey's parade, "Hometown Heroes," which is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. The route will be from the school north on Wyoming Avenue to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad property north of Highway 26. Line-up will begin at 9:30 a.m. Entry forms are available at the Senior Center, City Hall, Visitor's Center, Howshar Hardware, Johnston's Corner, Red Eagle, Register Cliff Pharmacy, Dave's Drugs and True Value Lumber. Entries will not be judged this year so that more people and organizations will feel comfortable participating in the event. Firefighters' benefit

* The annual picnic and fund-raiser for the Atlantic City Volunteer Fire Department begins at 10 a.m. July 3 with a new Fire Hall Open House and Reception; followed by lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., traditional Rock Creek Rubber Ducky races will be held on the quarter-hour, as well as drawings for door prizes. At 12:45 p.m., Junior Firefighter live waterhose training will be offered on the half-hour. At 3 p.m. sharp, a drawing for a $50 1-oz. U.S. gold coin will be held. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and are available from various merchants in Atlantic City, Farson, Lander, Hudson and Riverton. Info: (307) 332-9480.
